College Chemistry – Ms. Knipp

Beginning of the Year Review Sheet

You should be knowledgable on the following before the first test:

  1. Lab Safety – Study your safety contract
  2. Lab Equipment – be able to identify and know the function of all lab equipment
  3. Conversions – 2 and more steps. Study your notes and your review sheets
  4. Percent Composition – Remember % Comp is equal to the following:

% Comp = (part / whole) x 100

ex. A. if the chips of a cookie weigh 5g and the total mass of the cookie is 12, you should be able to find the percent that is chips.

% of cookie that is chips = (5g / 12 g) x 100

% of cookie that has no chips = (12-5)g / 12 g x 100

ex. B. What part of water, H2O, is H?

There are 3 atoms total: 2 H:  1.01 x 2 = 2.02
1 O:  16.00 x 1 = 16.00

Therefore the total weight of  H2O is 18.02

% H is (2.02/16.00) x 100 = ?

  1. Know Significant Figures
  2. Know how to express numbers in Scientific Notation

That’s All? Good Luck!!!!
